Sydney Peck B.S., CPDT-KA, CBCC-KA

I'm an Oregon native and have grown up with dogs my whole life. When I was 12, my only birthday wish was to become a volunteer at the Multnomah County Animal Shelter. Little did I know, this experience would change my life forever. I spent every Friday night there, plus some Saturdays and Sundays for teaching other volunteers and helping out when needed. I spent over 900 hours of my time there, caring for the dogs in the kennels and getting to know the staff members.

In 2017, I went off to California to follow my passion. I studied at Bergin University of Canine Studies, where I met amazing people and learned everything I could ever dream of knowing about dogs. I assisted in training 8 different dogs for future service work. I earned a Bachelors of Science in Cynology at the end of my educational program.

In November 2019, I earned my CPDT-KA (Canine Professional Dog Trainer-Knowledge Assessed) certification from the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers. In November 2020, I earned my CBCC-KA (Certified Behavior Consultant Canine-Knowledge Assessed) from the same organization.

Since 2019 I have been running my own business. Over time I have evolved my services to better match what my clients are looking for. Though my services continue to change as individual needs do, my mission has stayed the same: to help dogs become the best companions they can be.

Everyone should have access to high quality dog training without financial barriers getting in the way. Please contact me for details.

Training Style

I am ethically and morally bound to using Least Invasive Minimally Aversive (LIMA) dog training and behavior modification methods before anything else. This means that my first course of action is positive reinforcement. I acknowledge that every dog learns differently, and while I am open to using alternative training methods, they are not my go-to.

I strive to build relationships with dogs and all other animals based on trust. I use items and stimuli that dogs like to encourage behavior. Every dog is different: some light up for treats, others get excited about toys, and a few couldn’t care less about either but will do anything for pets and praise. Some dogs need a little extra time to feel comfortable and connected before they’re ready to start training, and that’s completely okay.

I’m a trauma-informed dog trainer, which basically means I understand that both dogs and their human guardians have likely experienced some form of sadness or intense stress in their lives. It might be something that seems small, like being bullied, losing a close relationship; or for a dog, a cardboard box falling over unexpectedly. It could also be something much bigger, such as a natural disaster, serious car accident, physical or emotional abuse, or the loss of a beloved companion (all of which can be traumatic for our canine companions). My goal is to create a safe, supportive training experience that helps both dogs and their people learn and grow together—without adding stress or trauma.
